Following the latest assessments of the General Directorate of Meteorology, the Ministry of Interior issued a heavy rainfall and storm alert for many regions of Turkey. In the warning issued for 12 provinces in the Black Sea, Mediterranean, and Southeastern Anatolia, citizens were asked to be cautious and take precautions.

The Ministry of Interior issued a critical statement on its social media account based on the latest data received from the Meteorology Department. The statement indicated that adverse weather conditions may occur in some regions due to the heavy rain and storm expected to be effective today.

WHICH PROVINCES WILL BE AFFECTED?

According to the information shared by the Ministry, the provinces expected to receive heavy rainfall are listed as follows:

EASTERN BLACK SEA

Locally very heavy rain is expected in the areas of Trabzon, Rize, Giresun, and Artvin.

EASTERN MEDITERRANEAN

Heavy rainfall will be effective in Osmaniye, particularly the eastern part of Adana, the southwest of Kahramanmaraş, and the coastal areas of Hatay.

SOUTHEASTERN ANATOLIA

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in the areas of Batman, Siirt, Şırnak, and the northeast of Diyarbakır.

SUCCESSIVE DISASTER WARNINGS

The Ministry of Interior warned citizens against the risks that may accompany the rainfall. The statement highlighted the following dangers:

  • Flash floods and inundation
  • Lightning strikes
  • Local hail
  • Strong winds and storms
  • Risk of transportation disruptions

The Ministry’s statement included the following expressions: “We remind our citizens to be cautious and take precautions against adversities, and to pay attention to the instant warnings of the authorities.”
