Virtual Conference To Discuss Effectiveness Of Int'l Law On Palestine Issue

Current and former UN officials and global legal experts will come together on Monday to discuss the effectiveness of international law with regards to the Palestine issue.

"This is one of the rare conferences discussing the effectiveness and prospects of international law for Palestine," said Hassan Ben Imran of the UK-based Law for Palestine, which is organizing the event on the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

He said the virtual conference will have about 15 speakers from around the world "who will discuss their experiences in Palestine and challenges they face in upholding international law on Palestine."

"We will explore whether accountability, when it comes to implementation of international laws, is really upheld on Palestine," he said, adding that the aim is to brainstorm ideas about "how to ensure action is taken on ground when it comes to international law on Palestine."

Michael Lynk, the current UN special rapporteur on Palestine, and his predecessors John Dugard and Richard Falk will attend the conference, while other participants include former UN officials, leaders of international NGOs, members of the European Parliament, and top legal and criminal law experts. -
