After the heavy rain that was effective in the Havza district of Samsun, the overflowing stream turned streets and avenues into rivers. The moments when floodwaters swept away vehicles and citizens trapped in workplaces raced against time to save their lives were captured by security cameras. While many workplaces in the district became unusable, extensive damage occurred after the disaster.
After heavy rainfall in Havza district of Samsun, the overflowing Hacı Osman Creek turned the district into a war zone. 25 Mayıs Neighborhood, Cumhuriyet Square surroundings, Çay Neighborhood, Bahçelievler, and many other neighborhoods, streets, and avenues were flooded in a short time.
IT SWEPT VEHICLES AND TREES
The footage showed the floodwaters dragging cars, trucks, SUVs, and trees along with them. The moments when the vehicles swept away by the strong current crashed into each other revealed the scale of the disaster.
RESIDENTS BARELY SAVED THEMSELVES
Another security camera image showed a workplace being flooded within seconds. The footage captured residents inside frantically trying to open the door, and as the water level rose rapidly, they flung themselves outside in a panic. A digger came to the rescue of the residents who threw themselves out of the shop. The fearful moments experienced by the residents being taken to safety via the digger drew attention.
WORKPLACES BECAME UNUSABLE
Due to the flood disaster, many workplaces became unusable, and shops were covered in mud and slime. It was learned that cleaning and damage assessment efforts continue with the help of many institutions and volunteers.
