A citizen living in Konya, due to a noisy sound coming from their 2016 model vehicle, went to a mechanic and was told "There is an engine problem, the valve cover needs to be opened," facing a cost of 70-80 thousand TL. Finding the price high, the vehicle owner went to an auto inspection service on the advice of an acquaintance and learned the bitter truth there. The inspection expert's examination revealed that the noise was not from the engine but only from a faulty radiator fan motor costing 10 thousand lira.
A.D., who lives in Konya, went to a mechanic in the city center to find out the source of a sound coming from his 2016 model car. During the inspection, the mechanic said, 'The engine needs to be repaired at a cost between 70-80 thousand lira.'
WHEN THE MECHANIC ASKED FOR 80 THOUSAND TL, HE WENT ELSEWHERE
Then, on the recommendation of an acquaintance, A.D. took his car to an expert inspection. The report prepared after the examination revealed that the car's cooling fan motor, worth 10 thousand lira, was faulty. Seeing the report, A.D. took the car to a different mechanic and had it repaired.
SOUND REPORTED AS VALVE TICK TURNED OUT TO BE FAN MOTOR
Şenol Uysal, the auto expert who identified the car's fault, said, 'A car came in with a valve tick sound. The car's noise was quite loud. It sounded very similar to a valve tick, but after our inspection, I showed the colleagues that the radiator fan was broken and the sound was coming from the fan. They had gone to one or two mechanics before. They said, 'The valve cover needs to be opened,' but it was just a broken radiator fan. So now, the fan is a small amount, valves are expensive. Opening the engine cover is an expensive thing. I showed them, when I manually held the gap, they saw the sound stopped. The customers thanked me, saying 'Was it really that simple, sir?''
"10 THOUSAND LIRA VERSUS 70-80 THOUSAND LIRA"
Şenol Uysal said, 'Our customer saved about 100 thousand lira in expenses. This amount can vary depending on what is found when opened, but it is wrong to claim there is an expense when there is none. If he had gone to an unknown place, they would have said, 'We fixed the valve tick sound nicely.' They would have changed the radiator and charged much more. So, they were happy we saved them from that. They thanked us. Simple things can have simple solutions. Don't just get a price from one place; confirm by getting prices from several places. Eventually, you will reach the right place. If he hadn't come to us and had gone to a mechanic in the industrial zone, they would have opened the cover claiming 'valve tick sound,' even though it was clear there was no issue there. They would have also changed the radiator fan for about 8-10 thousand lira. 10 thousand lira versus 70-80 thousand lira; it's a shame to waste people's money. They should be careful.'
