Mona Alabırash, a 68-year-old Syrian national living in the Tarsus district of Mersin, learned during a routine identity check by police while traveling to the hospital that she appears as deceased in official records. The investigation revealed that not updating her address and registration for many years caused this situation.
Mona Alabırash, who has been living in Tozkoparan Zahit Mahallesi, Tarsus district of Mersin for about 8 years, has been living in a religious marriage with 70-year-old Musa İnan for 7 years.
SHE APPEARED 'DEAD' IN GBT CHECK
During the General Information Scan (GBT) at a police checkpoint when the couple set out to go to Adana, it was revealed that Alabırash was registered as dead in the system.
Describing their shock, Musa İnan said, 'I was going to Adana with my wife. At a police checkpoint, an ID check was conducted. The police told me my wife appeared dead in the system. We were very shocked. Later, we went to the population directorate. There, the same information was given, and we were directed to the Mersin Migration Administration. We are currently waiting for the result.'
“SHE CAN NEITHER SEE A DOCTOR NOR BENEFIT FROM STATE SERVICES”
İnan stated that his wife cannot benefit from healthcare services, saying, 'She can neither see a doctor nor benefit from some services provided by the state. She has a hernia and needs treatment. Our only wish is for my wife’s alive status to be recorded in official records and for her to regain her identity.'
Mona Alabırash, who wants the error in official records to be corrected, said, 'I am alive. I want my identity back.'
HER RECORD IN THE MIGRATION ADMINISTRATION IS ACTIVE
On the other hand, it was learned that Mona Alabırash, who is stated to appear dead in police and population records, has active information in the Mersin Provincial Migration Administration. In the investigation, it was determined that Alabırash last updated her address in 2017, and it was stated that applying to the institution to update her registration and address information would be sufficient to resolve the issue.
