White House Official: Ceasefire agreement in Gaza is 90 percent complete.

05.09.2024 02:10

The US administration announced that 90% of the ceasefire agreement has been completed in Gaza and negotiations regarding the exchange of prisoners and captives, as well as the Philadelphi Corridor, are ongoing.

An American senior official announced that 90% of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza has been completed, and negotiations regarding "prisoner and hostage exchange" and the "Philadelphia Corridor" are ongoing between the parties.

THERE ARE 18 SECTIONS IN THE AGREEMENT TEXT, 14 OF THEM HAVE BEEN AGREED UPON

An American senior official evaluated the current situation of the ceasefire process in Gaza and the details of the negotiations in a press briefing held via teleconference. The American official explained that the proposed agreement currently on the table largely corresponds to the text that Hamas agreed upon in July. The official stated that there are 18 sections in the agreement text, 14 of which have been agreed upon and are the same as the previous text. One section is related to technical details, and the remaining 3 sections contain details regarding the exchange of Palestinian prisoners and hostages held by Hamas.

"WE ARE IN AGREEMENT ON 90% OF THE CEASEFIRE AGREEMENT"

The American official noted that there are still topics that need to be negotiated in the sections related to the prisoner exchange, stating, "Essentially, we are in agreement on 90% of this agreement." The official mentioned that the deaths of 6 Israeli prisoners over the weekend have somewhat complicated the negotiation process and they need to accept this. The official also stated that there are currently fewer prisoners compared to before, which has disappointed both the US and Israel. However, the official emphasized that significant progress has been made regarding the prisoner exchange and believes that this issue can be completely resolved. The American official said, "Prisoner exchange is one of the fundamental components of this agreement, and negotiations are currently ongoing, but Hamas needs to be involved in this process, otherwise we cannot move forward."
