On the second day of the 36th NATO Heads of State and Government Summit hosted by Ankara, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis made scandalous remarks set to raise tensions. Unable to conceal his discomfort with Turkey's defense moves, Mitsotakis claimed in the host country's capital, 'My country is under an open war threat from Turkey.'

In Ankara, where the heart of the global alliance beats, contrary to messages of solidarity among allies, dissenting voices rose from the Greek front.

"MY COUNTRY IS UNDER AN OPEN THREAT OF WAR FROM TURKEY"

Standing before the press as part of the summit marathon, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated, "My country is under an open threat of war from Turkey."

HE ALSO CRITICIZED NATO

The Greek Prime Minister argued that the alliance should continue based on fundamental principles and good neighborly relations, while expressing that NATO allies should take Athens' "sensitivities" into account.

HE AVOIDED COMMENTING ON THE F-35

One of the most striking moments of the press conference occurred when US President Donald Trump's statements giving the green light to the sale of F-35s to Turkey came to the agenda. Cornered by journalists' questions regarding the critical F-35 meeting between President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Trump, the Greek Prime Minister brushed off the situation with a single sentence, saying, "I will not comment on Erdoğan and Trump's conversation about the F-35."
