This year, the price of leeks in the field is between 20-22 TL per kilogram, while producers stated that prices have decreased compared to last year.
"LABOR COSTS ARE CHALLENGING"
Canan Can, who produces leeks on 10 acres in the Bulduklu neighborhood, stated that this is her first year planting leeks and said, "We planted on 10 acres. There is a yield of 5-6 tons per acre. Last year, the leek season ended at 30 TL. This year, it is finding buyers at 20-22 TL."
The yield is good, but as prices drop, labor costs are challenging us. We will harvest approximately 60 tons in total."
"THE SMELL DOESN'T GO AWAY FOR A WEEK"
Musa Tilki, one of the workers in the field, pointed out that leek harvesting is laborious, saying, "Leek harvesting is difficult. The smell doesn't go away from us for a week. It's hard to harvest, but this year labor wages are low. Working is not difficult, but living conditions are tough," he said.
