In the "corruption" investigation, Adana Metropolitan Mayor Zeydan Karalar and Büyükçekmece Deputy Mayor Ahmet Şahin have been suspended from their duties.
The corruption investigation against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the investigation into the criminal organization allegedly led by Aziz İhsan Aktaş, and the investigation initiated regarding the Büyükçekmece Municipality are ongoing.
TWO MAYORS ARRESTED
In this context, Adana Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Zeydan Karalar and Büyükçekmece Deputy Mayor Ahmet Şahin, who were detained in the corruption investigation against the criminal organization led by Aziz İhsan Aktaş, have been arrested.
ZEYDAN KARALAR AND AHMET ŞAHİN SUSPENDED FROM DUTY
Adana Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Zeydan Karalar and Büyükçekmece Deputy Mayor Ahmet Şahin, who were arrested, have been temporarily suspended from duty.
The Ministry of Interior made a statement regarding the matter. The statement was as follows:
"Büyükçekmece Deputy Mayor Ahmet Şahin was suspended from duty by the Ministry of Interior as a temporary measure in accordance with Article 127 of the Constitution and Article 47 of the Municipal Law No. 5393, following his arrest by the Istanbul 4th Criminal Court of Peace on 08.07.2025, with inquiry number 2025/742, due to the investigation conducted against him for the crimes of 'Membership in an Organization for the Purpose of Committing Crimes and Receiving Bribes.'
Adana Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Zeydan Karalar was also suspended from duty by the Ministry of Interior as a temporary measure in accordance with Article 127 of the Constitution and Article 47 of the Municipal Law No. 5393, following his arrest by the Istanbul 8th Criminal Court of Peace on 08.07.2025, with inquiry number 2025/856, due to the investigation conducted against him for the crime of 'Extortion by Coercion.'
