Zeynep will face Kazakh opponent Yulia Putintseva at the Australian Open. Sönmez, ranked 112th in the women's world rankings, faced world number 74 Bondar in the second round match of the women's singles at the tournament held in Melbourne.
The match, played on court 7 and lasting a total of 1 hour and 30 minutes, saw the 23-year-old Sönmez defeat her opponent with set scores of 6-2 and 6-4, becoming the first Turkish athlete to reach the 3rd round at the Australian Open.
The national tennis player broke her opponent's serve 4 times, while achieving a 24 to 10 advantage in direct points (winners), finishing the match with 20 unforced errors.

Meanwhile, Zeynep Sönmez is set to face Kazakh Yulia Putintseva in the 3rd round. In the women's singles second round match at the tournament in Melbourne, world number 94 Putintseva faced Elsa Jacquemot, ranked 60th. Putintseva advanced by defeating her French opponent with set scores of 6-1 and 6-2.
The 3rd round match between Sönmez and Putintseva will be played on Friday, January 23. If the 23-year-old Sönmez wins the match, she will become the first Turkish tennis player to reach the 4th round in singles at a grand slam tournament.
