Following the announcement of the new inflation forecast by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT), calculations regarding the minimum wage have also changed. Proposed increases in the minimum wage are around 35%. Economist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Filiz Eryılmaz stated in a live broadcast that she expects a minimum increase of 23% and a maximum increase of 25% in the minimum wage.
As the end of the year approaches, millions of employees are focused on the new minimum wage that will be valid in 2025. Economists have started to evaluate possible raise rates in light of the Central Bank's inflation forecasts and the government's economic policies.
Economist Assoc. Prof. Dr. Filiz Eryılmaz, who participated in the live broadcast of TV100, stated that she expects a calculation method similar to last year's model this year as well. Eryılmaz said, "The economic management will again base it on the expected inflation, not the actual one. A limited welfare share will be added on top of that."
"LAST YEAR'S MODEL MAY BE REPEATED"
Eryılmaz reminded that the minimum wage was determined with a 30% increase at the beginning of 2024, saying, "At that time, about 4 points of welfare share was added to the Central Bank's upper inflation band of 26%. We may see a similar approach this year as well."
CALCULATION ACCORDING TO CENTRAL BANK FORECASTS
Pointing out the latest inflation report, Eryılmaz conveyed that the Central Bank set its target for 2025 at 24%, with a forecast range of 31–33%. Based on this data, the economist who made predictions stated, "The minimum wage increase could be around at least 23% and at most 25%."
"I EXPECT A SALARY BETWEEN 27 THOUSAND TL AND 28 THOUSAND TL"
According to her calculations, Eryılmaz predicted that the net minimum wage in 2025 could be between 27,187 TL and 27,629 TL. Eryılmaz, who said, "My prediction is in the direction of a 23–25% raise rate. This corresponds to a figure of around 27 thousand TL," emphasized that she does not expect a very high increase due to the government's goal of fighting inflation, but the welfare share will also be on the agenda.
Thanking the host Başak Şengül for Eryılmaz's evaluations during the live broadcast, she drew attention with her words, "This is the first time I am hearing such a clear prediction."
