The vital Rafah Border Crossing between Gaza and Egypt has reopened after nearly two years. According to the agreement, 150 Palestinians will be able to exit Gaza.
The blockade of Israel has been lifted as part of U.S. President Donald Trump's Gaza plan. As of today, the Rafah Border Crossing, which connects Gaza to the world, has been opened. According to the agreement reached, 150 Palestinians are reported to be able to exit Gaza.
IT WAS OPENED FOR "TEST" PURPOSES FOR PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS
The Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), affiliated with the Israeli army, reported that the Rafah Border Crossing was opened for a limited number of Gaza residents in accordance with the instructions of the Israeli political echelon as part of the ceasefire agreement.
In this context, it was stated that the "pilot" phase to be conducted by the European Union Border Assistance Mission in Rafah (EUBAM Rafah) in coordination with Egypt and all other relevant parties has begun.
It was noted that all parties are preparing for the commencement of crossings during the pilot implementation phase, and that after the completion of these preparations, the actual two-way crossings for Gaza residents will begin.
80 THOUSAND PALESTINIANS READY TO RETURN
According to Al Jazeera, approximately 80 thousand Palestinians who left Gaza during Israeli attacks want to return to their homes. On the other hand, an estimated 22 thousand injured and sick Palestinians are also waiting to exit Rafah for treatment. According to Dr. Muhammad Abu Salmiya, Director of the Al Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza, delays in the passage of patients and the injured could double the death toll. The Rafah Border Crossing was originally planned to be opened in October as part of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement. However, Israel had refused to take this step until the last prisoner in Gaza was handed over last week.
