An operation was carried out against the Manavgat Municipality as part of a "corruption" investigation. During the investigation, Mayor Niyazi Nefi Kara was taken into custody, and it was reported that there are detention orders for 33 other individuals. During the searches, it was discovered that there were 110,000 euros inside a baklava box in the office of Deputy Mayor Mehmet Engin Tüter. Those moments were captured on camera.
The Manavgat Chief Public Prosecutor's Office conducted an operation against bribery, unlawful benefit procurement, and corruption at the Manavgat Municipality. Teams from the Smuggling and Organized Crime Prevention Branch initiated a search at the municipal building.
MAYOR IN CUSTODY
The details of the operation have become clear. As part of the operation, Mayor Niyazi Nefi Kara was taken into custody. Searches were conducted at Kara's home and office. It was stated that there are detention orders for 33 more individuals within the scope of the investigation.
110 THOUSAND EUROS IN A BAKLAVA BOX
It was reported that the suspects demanded bribes from complainants regarding hotel renovations, construction start permits, and occupancy applications through Mayor Niyazi Nefi Kara's nephew and Private Secretary H.C.G., and that they did not issue permits without receiving bribes. They allegedly created fake invoices as if services or goods were purchased from front companies established for the Manavgat Municipality, its affiliated enterprises, and the Manavgat Municipality Sports Club, unlawfully obtaining approximately 800 million TL.
It was recorded that Deputy Mayor Mehmet Engin Tüter was caught red-handed while receiving a bribe of 110 thousand euros from C.C. in a baklava box.
RED-HANDED OPERATION CAPTURED ON CAMERA
The red-handed operation regarding Deputy Mayor Tüter was captured on camera. Police entering Tüter's office at the municipality stated that they were carrying out an arrest procedure and requested the bag next to the table to be opened. In response, Mehmet Engin Tüter said that the bag contained alcoholic beverages and baklava offered by a friend, and it was revealed that there were 110 thousand euros in the baklava box he opened. Meanwhile, security forces left the municipal building around 4:30 PM.
