Activist Greta Thunberg, who joined the Global Sumud Fleet and was detained by Israel, gave a striking response to the question of whether she had been abused while in prison. Thunberg said, "I can talk about the mistreatment and abuse that Israel inflicts in prison, but that's not the issue. The issue is the deliberate genocide that Israel is continuing in Gaza. They are trying to eliminate a nation."

The Global Sumud Fleet, which set out to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza and break Israel's blockade of Gaza, was welcomed at Eleftherios Venizelos Airport in Athens, Greece, where Thunberg and many activists who were detained and subsequently deported by Israel were received.

In a statement here, Thunberg reacted to the international community and governments, saying that they have not taken the slightest step to prevent the war crimes committed by Israel.

"I CAN TALK ABOUT ISRAEL'S ABUSES, BUT..."

Thunberg also stated, "When governments fail, the people step in. The so-called leaders who claim to represent me continue to fuel genocide, death, and destruction. They do not represent me." She added, "Believe me, I can talk about the mistreatment and abuses that Israel carries out in prison, but that is not the issue. The issue is the deliberate genocide that Israel continues in Gaza. They are trying to eliminate a nation right before our eyes."

WHAT HAPPENED?

The Global Sumud Fleet, which set out to break the blockade and deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, approached the waters of Gaza on the evening of October 1. The Israeli army attacked the fleet, illegally seizing dozens of boats and ships and detaining hundreds of passengers. The Global Sumud Fleet is the largest fleet to have set out collectively to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza to date.
