In Eyüpsultan, five suspects were detained in connection with the incident where drug addict Volkan G. took his 93-year-old grandmother Fatma Demircan out for a walk and killed her in Arnavutköy. While efforts to reach the lifeless body of Fatma Demircan, who was murdered and left by the lakeside, continued, the five suspects were referred to the courthouse.

WENT TO THE POLICE STATION TO REPORT HER MISSING

The incident occurred on January 21 in Eyüpsultan. In the evening hours, Gülay G. went to the Eyüpsultan Akşemsettin police station to report her mother Fatma Demircan missing, saying, "I went to the market, and when I returned home, my mother was gone."

GRANDSON ENTERED THE RADAR OF THE TEAMS

According to allegations, 93-year-old Fatma Demircan had been living with one of her grandsons, Volkan G. (47), for some time. Following the incident, police teams contacted the gendarmerie and initiated a joint effort to locate Fatma Demircan, who had not been heard from for a while.

Gülay G. and her son Volkan G. began searching for her mother Fatma Demircan on their own and then went to Balaban village in Arnavutköy. They communicated with the villagers, stating that they were looking for the missing Fatma Demircan. It was also learned that the mother and son had spoken with the village headman during this time. Following Gülay G. and her son Volkan G.'s search for the missing Fatma Demircan in Arnavutköy, the teams expanded their efforts to include this area.

FOUND WITH CUT WRISTS

Teams that went to inspect the house of Fatma Demircan in Eyüpsultan found her grandson Volkan G. unconscious and with cut wrists. It was learned that the unconscious Volkan G. had left a suicide note saying, "I couldn't be a good man; I was able to do this to my grandmother." Volkan G. was transferred to Taksim Training and Research Hospital for treatment. After his treatment was completed, Volkan G. was brought to the police station to give his statement.

KILLED HIS GRANDMOTHER AND THREW HER BODY IN AN EMPTY AREA

After giving contradictory statements to the teams here, his brother Birkan G., mother Gülay G., and father Veli G. were also detained and brought to the Public Order Branch for processing. In his statement to the police, suspect Volkan G. said that he took his grandmother out for a walk to get some fresh air, and while driving, his grandmother, who was sitting in the back seat, hit him with her cane. He stated that he took the cane and hit her on the head, that she became motionless, and thinking she was dead, he got scared and took her body to Balaban village in Arnavutköy, leaving it in an empty area, and then left without remembering what happened to the body. It was also learned that in the continuation of Volkan G.'s statement, he said that the next day he went to a market to buy a pickaxe, shovel, and grave flowers to bury the body he had left in the empty area.

THE ELDERLY WOMAN'S BELONGINGS WERE FOUND BY THE LAKE

As part of the investigation conducted with the prosecutor, Volkan G. went with police teams to the area around Terkos Lake in Balaban village, Arnavutköy, and demonstrated how he committed the murder and what happened that day. Based on Volkan G.'s account, the teams focused their efforts around the lake with heavy machinery and cadaver dogs. During the searches conducted with the dogs, clothes and hair samples belonging to Fatma Demircan, who was allegedly killed by her grandson, were found at the location where the dogs reacted. The found samples were secured by the crime scene investigation teams and sent to the Forensic Medicine for examination for matching purposes.
