Due to the scorching heat, the streets and avenues in the district remained empty, especially during the noon hours, and most shopkeepers closed their businesses. In the district where high temperatures negatively affected life, some children tried to cool off in a decorative pool, while others poured water on their heads with a hose and a jug.
"LIFE HAS COME TO A STANDSTILL IN SİLOPİ"
Local resident Mehmet Adan reminded that the all-time temperature record in Turkey was broken in Silopi on July 25. Expressing that the heat negatively affected life in the district, Adan stated: "Citizens cannot go outside. The elderly and those with chronic illnesses prefer air-conditioned and cool places. Shopkeepers have become unable to open their shutters due to the heat. The meteorology department indicates that high temperatures will continue for a while. Life has become very difficult; people are struggling to breathe. It is impossible to go outside between 12:00 and 16:00. If there are no air conditioners, citizens will be in a miserable state. Life has become unbearable. Life has come to a standstill in Silopi. May God help us."
"SHOPKEEPERS CAN OPEN THEIR BUSINESSES ONLY FOR A CERTAIN TIME"
Shopkeeper Ali Önen stated that he opened his business but had no customers due to the heat. Noting that no one was going outside because of the heat, Önen said, "Shopkeepers can open their businesses only for a certain time; after that, they close."
"WE CANNOT OPEN OUR EYES DUE TO THE HEAT"
One of the citizens, Selim Barınc, expressed that he was struggling a lot due to the heat, saying, "We cannot open our eyes because of the heat. We cannot go outside from our homes." Mustafa Değer, who is 56 years old, stated that he has never encountered such heat in his lifetime.
