As they walked together to the venue of the meeting, F-22 fighter jets and the strategically important B-2 bomber flew over the two leaders. As those moments were captured on camera, both leaders looked up to watch the planes passing overhead.
THE MEETING LASTED 3 HOURS
This meeting, eagerly awaited by the global public, saw the two leaders engage in sincere dialogues and poses as they sat at the diplomacy table. The meeting lasted approximately 3 hours.
THEY HELD A PRESS CONFERENCE
After the "Three on Three" format meeting themed "In Pursuit of Peace," Trump and Putin spoke at a joint press conference at Elmendorf–Richardson Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska.
PUTIN: OUR MEETING WAS VERY CONSTRUCTIVE
Putin was the first to speak at the joint press conference. He stated regarding the summit, "Our meeting with U.S. President Trump was constructive, based on mutual respect, and beneficial."
Providing information about the content of his meeting with Trump, Putin said, "The situation around Ukraine was one of the main topics of the summit. We see that the U.S. administration and Trump are making efforts to resolve the Ukraine crisis and want to understand the essence and roots of the crisis."
Vladimir Putin continued:
"What is happening in Ukraine is connected to fundamental threats to our security. Moreover, we see the Ukrainian people as brothers. Our roots are one. Everything that has happened is a tragedy and pain for us. Therefore, our country is in favor of putting an end to this. However, for a solid and long-term solution to the Ukraine issue, the root causes of the crisis must be eliminated, all of Russia's legitimate concerns must be taken into account, and a fair balance of security must be established in Europe and the world."
Pointing out that Trump raised issues related to Ukraine's security, Putin said, "I agree with what Trump said today. Ukraine's security needs to be ensured. Of course, we are ready to work on this. I hope that the understanding we reached with Trump will lead us to achieve our goals and establish peace in Ukraine."
Putin expressed hope that "Ukraine and European countries will accept all of this constructively and will not try to hinder progress arising from provocations or behind-the-scenes intrigues."
"IT IS IMPORTANT FOR BOTH SIDES TO BE RESULT-ORIENTED"
Thanking Trump for their joint efforts, Putin noted:
"It is important for both sides to be result-oriented. We see that the U.S. President knows what he wants to do, sincerely cares about the prosperity of his country, and also understands Russia's national interests. I hope that the agreements we reached today will be the foundation for resolving the Ukraine issue and the beginning of a pragmatic, business-oriented relationship between Russia and the U.S. By moving forward on this path, I believe we can put an end to the conflicts in Ukraine as soon as possible."
Putin invited Trump to Moscow for the next meeting.
TRUMP: WE HAD A VERY CONSTRUCTIVE MEETING
Trump stated, "This meeting was very productive. We really made great progress. We reached agreements on many issues. However, there are still a few important issues on which we have not fully agreed."
U.S. President Trump expressed, "There are still a few important issues on which we have not fully agreed, but we have made some progress. An agreement is not an agreement until it is reached."
During the summit, which lasted about 3 hours, Trump was accompanied by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Representative for the Middle East Steve Witkoff; while Putin was accompanied by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Kremlin Foreign Policy Advisor Yuriy Ushakov.
THE NEXT MEETING MAY BE IN RUSSIA
Regarding his meeting with Putin, Trump stated that he would call "various people he deemed appropriate" from NATO member countries and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, saying, "We really made great progress today. I have always had a great relationship with President Putin. We have had many difficult and even good meetings."
Trump emphasized that the process has been delayed so far due to the "Russia hoax," which has created difficulties in conducting the process, and that Putin understands this situation.
Reiterating that they have reached agreements on many points with Putin, Trump stated that there are "very few issues left" and that some of the remaining ones are "not that important."
Trump conveyed that one of the remaining issues is "probably the most important" and that there is "a very high chance of reaching it."
Expressing hope for productive meetings with Russia in the future, Trump said, "We will prevent thousands of people from being killed every week, and President Putin wants this as much as I do."
Trump told Putin, "We will probably meet soon," and responded to the Russian leader's question, "In Moscow?" with "that is possible."
IT COULD BE A FIRST IN 16 YEARS
Following Putin's invitation to Moscow, all eyes turned to the definitive decision Trump would make. The last U.S. President to visit Russia was Barack Obama in 2009. Since then, no U.S. president has gone to Moscow due to tensions between the two countries.
