Every year, the 19th of May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day, celebrated with great enthusiasm and pride by the nation, is preparing to be celebrated this year with various events across Turkey.
FREE PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN 3 METROPOLISES
The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Uraloğlu, stated in a written announcement that according to the Presidential Decision published in the Official Gazette dated April 26, public transportation will be free on the 19th of May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day in Ankara, Istanbul, and Izmir. Uraloğlu said, "In Istanbul, Marmaray, the Sirkeci-Kazlıçeşme Rail System Line, and the Gayrettepe-Istanbul Airport-Arnavutköy Metro will be free, as well as Başkentray in Ankara and İZBAN in Izmir. These lines will provide all citizens with a fast, easy, and economical transportation option throughout the day."
In a statement from IETT, it was announced that those who own a personalized Istanbulkart will be able to travel for free on May 19. Additionally, bus and metrobus services will operate on a Saturday schedule.
The statement from IETT included the following: "On the 19th of May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day, you can travel for free with your personalized Istanbulkart. Bus and Metrobus services will operate on a Saturday schedule. The service schedules for some of our lines due to exceptional circumstances are as follows;
On the European Side; our lines numbered 144H, 62H, 46KT, 25C, 38H, 36S, 151, 402, 403, 404, 300M, 303B, 300S, 36C, 36C, 336H, 336H, 59HS, 25Y, 42KT, 33M, 33, 98G, MK97, HT1, and EL2 will operate on a weekday schedule.
On the Asian Side: lines numbered 8K, 13AB, 19FS, 13Y, 15YK, and 139T will operate on a weekday schedule, while lines 11ÜS, 130A, and E-10 will operate night services on a weekday schedule. Our lines numbered KM13 and UM73 will not provide night services that are part of the Saturday service plan.
*The free application does not apply to the Adalar lines, Beyoğlu-Taksim Nostalgic Tram, Karaköy-Beyoğlu Tunnel, SG-1 Sabiha Gökçen Airport-Kadıköy, SG-2 Sabiha Gökçen Airport-Taksim, 139 Üsküdar-Şile, and 139A Üsküdar-Şile/Ağva VİP lines."
ESHOT, İZULAŞ, İZDENİZ, Metro, and Tramway operations affiliated with the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality will be 50% discounted on the 19th of May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day.
On the 106th anniversary of the 19th of May Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day, on Monday, May 19, 2025, EGO General Directorate's public transport vehicles (EGO Buses, Metro, and ANKARAY) will provide free service.
