In Çorum, three branches of a chain supermarket were penalized with a one-day closure for selling expired products. The municipal police teams continue their inspections to protect public health.
According to a written statement from the Çorum Municipality, the teams from the Zoning Directorate have initiated a new inspection process targeting chain market branches that were previously penalized for selling expired products. The teams, which identified that expired products were sold for the second time at two branches on Ata Street and one branch on 59th Street in Bağcılar belonging to the same chain market, imposed a one-day closure penalty by the decision of the Municipal Council.
DOORS SEALED
After the closure decision was communicated, the zoning teams went to the market branches and sealed the doors. Additionally, a notice was posted in the markets stating, "This market has been closed for 1 day by the Çorum Municipality due to selling expired products." In the statement, Zoning Director İrfan Göyhan, whose opinions were included, stated that they would never allow the health of the public to be compromised.
MAYOR AŞGIN: OUR INSPECTIONS WILL CONTINUE WITH DETERMINATION
Göyhan stated that they are continuously carrying out inspections on markets upon the instruction of Çorum Mayor Halil İbrahim Aşgın, and he noted; "When we detect price discrepancies at the cash register and shelves or expired products, we first impose a penalty. If the same market continues to violate, we impose a closure penalty by the decision of the Municipal Council. Today, we closed a market branch for the second time due to the same detection for 1 day. We will never allow the health of our citizens to be compromised and consumers to be harmed. Everyone can be assured that our inspections will continue with determination. We ask our citizens to always check the expiration dates of products when shopping at markets. If they detect expired products, we request them to report it to the Alo 153 Zoning Line or our Çorum Municipality WhatsApp complaint line at 0501 100 19 19."
