The CHP's Istanbul Congress was annulled by the court as a result of a lawsuit. Özgür Çelik and the current administration were dismissed, while 196 delegates were temporarily removed. With this decision, the ongoing congress process was also halted. Gürsel Tekin was appointed as the trustee for the CHP Provincial Presidency.
In the lawsuit filed for the cancellation of the congress held in Istanbul on October 8, 2023, the court ruled for the dismissal of Özgür Çelik and the current administration. The decision also included the temporary suspension of 196 delegates. Thus, it was decided to completely halt the ongoing congress process.
GÜRSEL TEKİN APPOINTED AS TRUSTEE
Following this bombshell development, Gürsel Tekin, Zeki Şen, Hasan Babacan, Müjdat Gürbüz, and Erkan Narsap were temporarily assigned to the Istanbul Provincial Presidency. Tekin stated that he would accept the position.
"CHP WILL BE RUN BY CHP MEMBERS"
In statements to Barış Yarkadaş, Tekin said, "It was a surprise for me as well. I will put my hand under the stone to free our party from the corridors of the judiciary. We will not leave our party to a trustee. We will take CHP to the congress in unity and solidarity. All the friends in the committee are from CHP. CHP is our home, our nest, our everything. All our friends should be at ease. CHP will be run by CHP members," he said.
"WE HAVE BEEN SEEN AS NEUTRAL"
Continuing his words, Çelik, who said, "I and the former 4 district chairpersons have been appointed," stated, "My struggle is to establish unity and integrity. I have no business with delegates or fights. We have been seen as neutral. Our entire effort will be to resolve the party's legal issues and internal problems. I will also meet with my party leader Özgür Özel and Istanbul Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik. We came not to create problems, but to resolve them," he said.
HE HAD WON AGAINST CEMAL CANPOLAT
Özgür Çelik won the CHP Istanbul Provincial Congress held on October 8, 2023, with 342 votes. His rival Cemal Canpolat received 310 votes.
The interim decision included the following statements:
"The request for the temporary suspension of the delegates of the 38th Ordinary Istanbul Provincial Congress of the Republican People's Party is rejected,
The request for the temporary suspension of all decisions made at the 38th Ordinary Istanbul Provincial Congress of the Republican People's Party held on 08/10/2023 is REJECTED,
The interim precautionary measure decision is to be notified to the parties and those appointed as the temporary board,
The interim precautionary measure decision is to be sent to the Istanbul Provincial Election Board, the Sarıyer 1st District Election Board, and the Istanbul Governorship for execution,
The decision of the Sarıyer 1st District Election Board dated 11/10/2023 and the annex lists are to be considered as part of the court decision, and the accepted parts of the decision are subject to appeal to our court in accordance with Article 394 of the HMK, while the rejected parts of the decision are subject to appeal to the Istanbul Regional Court of Appeals in accordance with Article 391 of the HMK, and the decision was made as a result of the examination conducted in the absence of the parties."
