INVESTIGATION COMPLETED IN THE HARASSMENT SCANDAL AT THE KYK DORMITORY

The investigation conducted by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office upon the complaint of the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports regarding the allegations of looting of students' belongings and writing harassment messages on lockers at the Atatürk KYK Student Dormitory in Cevizlibağ, Istanbul, during the summer months of 2025 has been completed.

FIGURES DRAWN ON UNDERWEAR

In the prepared indictment, the Ministry of Youth and Sports is the 'victim of the crime', with individuals including students residing in the dormitory as complainants, while 4 individuals are included as 'suspects'. The indictment states that during the renovations carried out in the summer at the Istanbul Youth Sports Provincial Directorate, Merkez Efendi and Vali Muammer Güler Student Dormitory, some workers stayed in the dormitory, lockers were locked to ensure students could stay during the summer holiday, the locks of the items in the locked lockers left to the dormitory management were broken and mixed up, some items were taken, various figures were drawn on some underwear, and some bunk beds in the dormitory were damaged by workers writing social media accounts. It was reported that students' personal belongings were mixed up, messages were sent to GSM lines obtained from them, and students were disturbed. The indictment emphasized that the investigation was initiated with a petition containing the complaint of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

The indictment stated that a photo of the defendant named Mohamadamın R. wearing underwear and pajamas belonging to dormitory students was found on his phone. Furthermore, it was noted that the collection of camera recordings took a long time due to the workers' prolonged stay in the dormitory. When the collected evidence was physically delivered to the prosecutor's office, an expert was appointed for the examination of the records, but although the expert completed the examination of the phone images, the examination of the camera recordings was not completed, as stated in the indictment.

It was reported in the indictment that the records were sent to the Zeytinburnu District Police Department for a detailed report to be prepared, that the case was a detained case, and that sufficient suspicion had arisen based on the evidence collected in the file. It was also noted that the length of the camera recordings would prolong the examination, and considering the stage of the investigation, it was understood that waiting for the return of the records would unnecessarily prolong the investigation, thus the information that the return of the records and the report were not awaited was included in the indictment. In the prepared indictment, although the defendants did not accept the charges against them, it was reported that when the images reflected in the media and identified in the investigation report were examined, it was determined that the defendant Orhan D. shared visuals of writing on the dormitory bunk bed from his own social media account.

REQUEST FOR UP TO 21 YEARS IN PRISON

In the indictment, it was requested that the defendant Hacı Ü. be punished with a prison sentence of 8 years and 4 months to 21 years for a total of 5 crimes, including 'theft of property in public institutions and organizations' and 'causing qualified damage to public property'. For the other 3 defendants, it was requested that they be punished with a prison sentence of 6 years to 14 years for the crimes of 'theft of property in public institutions and organizations', 'qualified theft of property kept within a building', and 'damage to property'. Additionally, the prepared indictment was accepted by the Bakırköy 49th Criminal Court of First Instance. The trial of the defendants will begin in the coming days.
