New footage has emerged showing the panic experienced by people and the destruction of buildings following the second earthquake on February 6, 2023, centered in the Elbistan district of Kahramanmaraş.
New footage has emerged regarding the devastation of the 7.6 magnitude tremor that occurred in Elbistan at 1:24 PM, approximately 9 hours after the 7.7 magnitude earthquake centered in the Pazarcık district on February 6, 2023, at 4:17 AM.
The images recorded by the MOBESE systems and security cameras installed at various points in the district center once again revealed the magnitude of the earthquake on February 6, 2023, along with the fear and panic experienced by the people.
THEY STRUGGLED TO STAND
The recordings show moments when buildings collapsed during the tremor, and some citizens struggled to stand, holding onto vehicles, while others fled in panic.
A FOUR-STORY BUILDING COLLAPSED ONTO VEHICLES
According to the MOBESE cameras in the Işıklar area of the district, the four-story building collapsed onto parked vehicles during the tremor at 1:24 PM, capturing the dust cloud that formed in the area and the panic experienced by people second by second.
The camera recordings across from Büyük Kentpark also captured moments when the first two floors of a building collapsed, people fled in panic, and they held onto vehicles to avoid losing their balance.
A TRUE LIFE-AND-DEATH SITUATION
One of the clearest recordings of the tremor was captured on Gariplik Street. The footage documented citizens struggling to stand and holding onto each other due to the earthquake's effects, the dust cloud rising from collapsed buildings, citizens calling their relatives on their mobile phones, and rushing to help those trapped under the rubble of the fallen buildings.
