Protests that began on December 28, 2025, due to the significant devaluation of the local currency against foreign currencies and economic issues, spread to many cities after shopkeepers initiated protests in Tehran's Grand Bazaar. Following the escalation of protests in the capital Tehran on January 8, the country's administration blocked internet access. Recently, it has been reported that internet access has been partially and limitedly restored.
