He also stated, "The EU agreed to buy $750 billion worth of energy products from the US. Additionally, the EU will invest more than $600 billion in the US."
TRUMP'S TARIFF DECISIONS TOWARDS THE EU
After taking office, US President Trump imposed a 50% customs duty on steel and aluminum imports from EU countries, a 25% duty on the automotive sector, and a 10% duty on other products.
In the tariff letter he sent to the EU, Trump stated that starting from August 1, a 30% customs duty would be applied to all products sent from EU countries to the US, in addition to sectoral tariffs. He also threatened in his letter that this amount would be increased if the EU retaliated.
EU SIDE GAVE 197.3 BILLION EUROS MORE IN MUTUAL TRADE
According to EU Commission data, the EU sold goods worth 532.3 billion Euros to the US last year while purchasing products worth 335 billion Euros. As a result of this trade, the EU side gave 197.3 billion Euros more. Trump was particularly uncomfortable with the EU's high trade surplus.
