Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is coming to Turkey today at the invitation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. At the critical summit between the two countries, the goal is to increase the trade volume to 10 billion dollars. Additionally, it is anticipated that various agreements covering trade, economy, culture, education, and social cooperation will be signed to deepen bilateral relations during the meeting.
The long-standing tense relations with the neighboring country Greece are thawing today. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will meet with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis after a long hiatus.
The agenda of the meeting will include economic, commercial, political, and cultural relations between Turkey and Greece. Steps to increase the foreign trade volume, which was at 6.7 billion dollars in 2025, to 10 billion dollars will be discussed, along with exchanges of views on regional security, geopolitical developments, and global issues, particularly regarding Turkey's contribution in the face of NATO missions and Europe's security priorities.
MEMORANDUMS ON THE TABLE
The meeting will evaluate the positive agenda diplomacy and confidence-building measures recently maintained by Turkey and Greece. Additionally, it is anticipated that various memorandums covering trade, economy, culture, education, and social cooperation will be signed to deepen bilateral relations.
TRADE TARGET 10 BILLION DOLLARS
Ankara prioritizes maintaining dialogue within the framework of good neighborliness and international law in resolving issues with Athens, such as Cyprus, the Aegean Islands, and the Eastern Mediterranean.
As part of the normalization process, mutual visits and meetings have intensified, while Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis visited Turkey in 2024. In the same year, he implemented a short-term visa application for Turkish citizens traveling to the Aegean islands.
