DETAINED AT THE AIRPORT

It was announced that an ex officio investigation has been launched against stand-up comedian İmran Deniz Göktaş for the crime of 'publicly insulting the religious values adopted by a segment of society'.

İmran Deniz Göktaş, who faced backlash from citizens due to his expressions regarding the Quran and the revelation process in his stand-up show titled 'Dead Sea' published on a social platform recently, was detained at Istanbul Airport while returning from abroad.

In its statement regarding the relevant investigation, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated, 'The 185 CIMER applications submitted to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office were collectively evaluated due to their relation to the same subject; an ex officio investigation has been launched against the relevant individual within the scope of the crime of 'publicly insulting the religious values adopted by a segment of society'. Within the scope of the investigation conducted by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office under file number 2026/117973, the suspect İmran Deniz Göktaş was apprehended at Istanbul Airport on July 2. Procedures are being carried out for the suspect to be taken over by the teams of the Istanbul Security Directorate, the law enforcement unit conducting the investigation. The investigation is being meticulously carried out by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.'
