Customs teams at the international airport in Ahmedabad, India, uncovered an unimaginable smuggling method.
BAGS FOUND INSIDE THE SPEAKER IN THE TOILET
On June 12, after an IndiGo airline flight from Dubai landed at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, customs security teams launched a detailed search based on suspicion. In an operation carried out with technical support from aircraft engineers, the speaker box in the front toilet of the plane was opened. During the inspection, two suspicious bags tightly wrapped in black plastic tape were found hidden inside the speaker mechanism.
A FORTUNE EMERGED
The smuggling material found inside the opened bags surprised even the customs officials. From the hidden compartment, 24 foreign-origin, 24-karat pure gold bars were recovered. It was reported that the total weight of the seized gold was 2,799.3 grams (approximately 2.8 kilograms), with a market value of $380,000 in India's domestic market.
CONFISCATED AS "UNCLAIMED"
Customs officials stated that the gold was hidden in the toilet by a mysterious individual on the plane to be smuggled into the country. After the flight, as no passenger or crew member claimed ownership of the gold, the bars, with their astonishing market value, were confiscated under customs regulations as "unclaimed property." A large-scale investigation into the incident is ongoing.
