'BARON', WEIGHING 1 TON 50 KILOGRAMS, SOLD FOR 215 THOUSAND TL
The most remarkable animal in the Doğançay animal market was 'Baron'. The 1-ton dana brought from Ağrı was sold for 215 thousand TL. The owner of the dana, Engin Peker (32), said, "We have the most expensive animal in the market. Unfortunately, we sold it cheap. This is the calf of our own house." Peker, who advocates that animals should be sold at higher prices, stated, "We seem to have made a profit, but actually we sell them at cost. Lately, we are losing money from the animals due to the meat brought from outside."
"ANIMAL PRICES ARE NORMAL; BUT THERE ARE NO BUYERS"
Animal seller Erhan Şahin, who came to the market from Erzincan, stated, "I brought 25 animals. I could only sell 5 animals in 15 days. There is no market, we cannot sell animals. Animal prices are normal, but there are no buyers. The price of heifers starts from 90 thousand."
WARNING TO THOSE WHO WILL BUY SACRIFICIAL ANIMALS
Another animal seller, İzzet Savaş, drew attention to the points to be considered when choosing a sacrificial animal. Savaş stated, "Heifers should not be pregnant. They should be over two years old and have their female lid open. The same conditions apply to males and females. Their eyes, feet, and everything else should be intact. If the neck is broken or the leg is injured, it cannot be a sacrificial animal. There are not many people in our society who pay attention to this."
"NOT VERY EXPENSIVE, BUT BUYERS SAY IT IS EXPENSIVE"
Savaş, emphasizing that expenses have increased compared to last year, said, "The most expensive animal I have is 150 thousand lira, close to 400 thousand lira. Actually, it is not very expensive, but buyers say it is expensive. We say 100 thousand lira for animals weighing 270-280 kilograms, but we cannot sell them under these conditions.
Okan Güven, an animal seller from Erzurum, also used the following statements: "There is no revival in the market. We came from Erzurum. Our animal is still in our hands. The animal was 150 thousand lira in the country, but it dropped to 100 thousand lira when we brought it here. The most expensive animal I have is 150 thousand lira. We sold 10 out of 30 animals. Prices have halved. There will be no decrease in prices towards the last day of the market."
