In January 2025, Turkey's revenue from anchovy exports reached $976,905, marking a 29% increase compared to the previous year. Turkey exported anchovies to 12 countries, with Belgium being the largest market for its exports.

The income from anchovy exports made from Turkey in January 2025 reached 976,905 dollars, an increase of 29 percent compared to the same period last year.

İlker Yıldırım, Deputy Chairman of the Fisheries Sector Committee of the Eastern Black Sea Exporters Association, told AA correspondent that anchovies were exported to 12 countries in the first month of the year from Turkey. Yıldırım stated that the anchovy exports in January 2024 were recorded as 288 tons, equivalent to 758,405 dollars, and said, "In the first month of 2025, 416 tons of anchovies were exported from Turkey, generating an income of 976,905 dollars. In this context, the anchovy exports from our country during this period increased by 44 percent in quantity and 29 percent in value compared to the same period last year."

THE MOST EXPORTS TO BELGIUM

Yıldırım expressed that the highest anchovy export from Turkey was made to Belgium, amounting to 313,672 dollars, stating, "Belgium is followed by Germany with 265,984 dollars and Ukraine with 184,090 dollars. Unlike the same period last year, anchovies were also exported to Georgia during this period." Emphasizing that anchovies create significant potential in seafood exports, Yıldırım noted that they contribute significantly to the country's economy. Yıldırım highlighted the importance of sustainability in anchovy exports, stating that measures should be taken to ensure that anchovies reach larger sizes and become more abundant.
