During the traditional Ramadan cannon firing at sahur time in the Menteşe district of Muğla, a 19-year-old young man was seriously injured. Two people were detained in connection with the incident. The traditional sahur time cannon firing, held annually in the Kıyamettin neighborhood of Menteşe, turned bloody this year. In the incident, 19-year-old A.A., who was near the firing mechanism, was severely injured by the force of the explosion. According to the information obtained, the Ramadan cannon, which was fired to announce the sahur time, hit A.A. in the face while he was standing next to the person performing the firing. Citizens who saw the young man collapse to the ground in a pool of blood reported the situation to the 112 Emergency Call Center without delay.
HE WAS INTUBATED
The unfortunate young man, who received first aid from health teams at the scene, was first taken to Menteşe State Hospital. Here, A.A., whose condition was determined to be critical, was intubated and transferred to Muğla Training and Research Hospital. According to information obtained from hospital sources, it was learned that the young man had multiple fractures on his face and that his life was still in danger.
After the incident, local residents argued that the spot where the cannon was fired was risky. One citizen emphasized that the cannon should be fired from a safer location, stating: "It is extremely illogical to fire a cannon here. In the past, this cannon was fired in a higher, flat area on the hill. The current location poses a danger to the houses and is risky. The first cannon was fired at sahur time, but the second one did not explode; the incident occurred at that moment. It seems that the easy way was taken, but this negligence cost a young man's life."
2 SUSPECTS DETAINED IN CONNECTION WITH THE INCIDENT
Following the tragedy, law enforcement launched a large-scale investigation. Two suspects, identified as O.M.A. and F.K., who were found to be connected to the incident, were detained by police teams. After their procedures at the police station, the suspects were referred to the courthouse on charges of 'causing injury by negligence.'
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
