According to a statement from AFAD, an earthquake measuring 4.3 occurred in the Sivrice district of Elazığ at 10:37. It was determined that the earthquake was at a depth of 11.33 kilometers.

Meanwhile, in a report prepared in January 2026 by the Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute (KRDAE) regarding the earthquakes in Elazığ, it was stated that the region is "on an active fault zone." The report reminded that earthquakes reaching magnitudes VIII and IX occurred in Elazığ and its surroundings during historical periods. In the instrumental period, among the largest earthquakes near the region were the January 24, 2020 Sivrice (M 6.7) and October 16, 2024 Elazığ (M 6.0) earthquakes. The recent earthquakes were evaluated as part of the ongoing active tectonics in the region following these major earthquakes.
The report also included a call for disaster preparedness for citizens. It emphasized the importance of checking building safety, securing household items, and preparing individual disaster plans. The Kandilli Observatory stressed that every earthquake should keep the awareness of disaster alive.
