A 6.0 magnitude earthquake in Afghanistan has resulted in the deaths of 250 people and injured 500 others. Authorities have warned that the death toll may rise, while the earthquake was also felt in Pakistan's capital, Islamabad.
It has been reported that more than 250 people lost their lives in the earthquake with a magnitude of 6 that occurred in the Kunar province in eastern Afghanistan.
THE MOST AFFECTED AREA IS KUNAR PROVINCE
An official from the Afghan Ministry of Information made a statement regarding the earthquake that occurred at night. The official stated that the regions most affected by the earthquake are in Kunar province, and that roads have been closed to traffic due to landslides, adding that search and rescue operations are being carried out by helicopters.
THE DEATH TOLL IS EXPECTED TO RISE
The official stated that according to initial assessments, more than 250 people have lost their lives in the earthquake, and more than 500 people have been injured, expressing that they expect the death toll to increase.

Afghanistan's interim government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid also confirmed in a statement on the social media platform of the US-based X company that there have been fatalities due to the earthquake. Mujahid stated, "Unfortunately, today's earthquake has caused loss of life and property in the eastern provinces." He reported that local officials and residents are participating in the rescue efforts, and that teams from the central government and surrounding provinces are also on their way to the region.
ONE OF THE MOST SEVERE EARTHQUAKES TO STRIKE THE COUNTRY
Mujahid stated, "All available resources will be used to save lives." Local officials reported that this is one of the most severe earthquakes to hit the country. Meanwhile, at least two aftershocks have been recorded in the region, one of which was of magnitude 5.2.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) announced that an earthquake with a magnitude of 6 occurred 27 kilometers northeast of Jalalabad, near the Pakistan border, at a depth of 8 kilometers.
