ALL EYES ON THE SIGNATURES TO BE DELIVERED TODAY IN CHP
Activity within the party continues in the Republican People's Party after the absolute nullity decision regarding the 38th Ordinary Convention. Following the court decision re-declaring Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu as the general chairman, delegates who want the party to hold a new convention in a short time have taken action.
It has been learned that the signatures collected under the coordination of CHP provincial organizations will be presented to the party administration today.
SIGNATURES TO BE DELIVERED TO THE HEADQUARTERS
The signatures collected for the convention request will be delivered to the CHP Headquarters at 11:45. The process is considered critically important for the demands regarding the party holding an extraordinary convention.
STATEMENT FROM PROVINCIAL HEADS EXPECTED
After the delivery of the signatures, CHP provincial heads are expected to make a press statement in front of the headquarters building. The statement is anticipated to share details of the convention request and the roadmap to be followed.
WHAT DO THE SIGNATURES MEAN?
According to the CHP by-laws, there are three ways to convene an extraordinary convention. The general chairman can directly call for a convention, the Party Assembly can decide in this direction, or one-fifth of the convention members can request an extraordinary convention with notarized signatures.
The delegates' signatures are collected within 15 days and delivered to the general chairman's office. After the application, the extraordinary convention must be held within at most 45 days. The signatures of 900 delegates mean that the absolute majority required for an elective extraordinary convention has been exceeded.
