A verdict has been reached in the drug case in which businessman Sadettin Saran and presenter Ela Rümeysa Cebeci were tried. The court ruled that the offense of "drug trafficking" alleged against the two individuals was not constituted and issued an acquittal.
The decision was announced at the second hearing of the case in which businessman and former Fenerbahçe Sports Club President Steven Sadettin Saran and presenter Ela Rümeysa Cebeci are being tried on charges of "trafficking in or supplying narcotic or stimulant substances." At the hearing, while the prosecutor requested that both defendants be sentenced to no less than 10 years in prison, the court ruled for their acquittal on the grounds that the offense was not constituted.
SARAN DID NOT ATTEND THE HEARING
While Ela Rümeysa Cebeci came to the courthouse for the second hearing of the case, Sadettin Saran, who made his defense at the first hearing, did not attend the court. Saran's request to be exempted from attending the hearings had previously been accepted by the court. Cebeci, who made her defense at the hearing, both rejected the accusations against her and made statements regarding her past relationship with Saran.
"SADETTIN SARAN HAS BEEN IN MY LIFE FOR 7 YEARS"
In her defense at the court, Cebeci stated that she had a relationship with Sadettin Saran spanning many years and said that the bond between them continued as a romance for a period and as friendship for another period.
Cebeci said, "Sadettin Saran has been in my life for 7 years. Part of this was romance and part was friendship. He is still very valuable to me."
THE MESSAGES HAD BEEN REVEALED! "IT WAS A MOVIE LINE..."
Touching on the WhatsApp correspondence that came to the agenda within the scope of the case, Cebeci argued that the messages consisted of humorous expressions used by two people flirting.
Cebeci said, "The WhatsApp correspondence between us is a language, a language of humor, used by two people flirting and being coquettish. They are about our memories and the lines from the movies we watched."
Stating that the correspondence was based on their shared memories from the past and the lines from the movies they watched together, Cebeci did not accept the accusatory interpretations regarding the messages.
"I HAVE NEVER USED COCAINE IN MY LIFE"
Rejecting the drug accusations against her, Cebeci said that to date she had never taken or used drugs from anyone. Arguing that no drugs were found in her home, on her person, in her blood, or in her urine, Cebeci said, "I did not take drugs from anyone. I did not use them. No drugs were found in my home, on my person, in my blood, or in my urine. I have never used cocaine or the like in my life."
Continuing her defense, Cebeci touched on her lifestyle and profession and said, "I have an understanding of journalism that I live with athletic discipline. I am extremely sorry for occupying you with such a matter." Stating that she did not accept the accusations against her, Cebeci requested her acquittal from the court.
PROSECUTOR DEMANDED AT LEAST 10 YEARS IN PRISON FOR BOTH INDIVIDUALS
Following Cebeci's defense, the hearing prosecutor announced his opinion on the merits. The prosecutor requested that Sadettin Saran and Ela Rümeysa Cebeci be sentenced to no less than 10 years in prison for the offense of "obtaining narcotic substances."
SHE COULD NOT HOLD BACK HER TEARS AFTER THE OPINION
Ela Rümeysa Cebeci, who took the floor again after the prosecutor's prison request, reacted to the accusations against her. Cebeci could not hold back her tears, saying, "I do not understand on what evidence this is based; I do not accept the accusations, I request my acquittal."
COURT DECIDES ACQUITTAL FOR BOTH INDIVIDUALS
After the defenses and the prosecutor's opinion, the court announced its decision and ruled that the offense of "narcotic substance trafficking" attributed to Sadettin Saran and Ela Rümeysa Cebeci was not constituted. The court decided on the acquittal of both defendants.
