The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that a detention order has been issued for the person who threw a lighter at Kazımcan Karataş during the Fenerbahçe-Galatasaray derby, and that a ban from sports competitions has been imposed for one year.
In the 14th week of the Süper Lig, the events that took place during the Fenerbahçe–Galatasaray derby overshadowed the match. The game ended in a 1-1 draw, while the unfortunate incident involving Galatasaray's young player Kazımcan Karataş drew significant backlash from the yellow-red community. The Istanbul Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office made a statement regarding the matter.
A LIGHTER HIT, INJURED HIS FACE
During the derby, a lighter thrown from the Fenerbahçe stands hit Kazımcan Karataş under his eye, injuring the young player. It was noted that it was purely by chance that the incident did not lead to a much more serious injury, while Galatasaray Club quickly took legal steps regarding the issue.
CRIMINAL COMPLAINT FOR 'INTENTIONAL INJURY'
Galatasaray officially filed a criminal complaint, stating that the attack on their player fell under the scope of "intentional injury." The club's legal unit announced that they would follow up on the incident and pursue the process to the end.
PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE: ARREST, BAN
Teams examining the security cameras in the stadium identified the supporter who threw the lighter as M.G. The suspect was taken into custody by police teams, and proceedings were initiated under Law No. 6222 on the Prevention of Violence and Disorder in Sports.
In a statement from the Istanbul Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was stated, "An investigation has been initiated by the Sports Crimes Investigation Bureau regarding the incident in which the lighter thrown onto the field during the Fenerbahçe-Galatasaray football match played on 01/12/2025 hit player Kazımcan Karataş in the face, in accordance with Law No. 6222 on the Prevention of Violence and Disorder in Sports. Following the examination of the camera recordings, an arrest warrant was issued for the suspect who committed the act, and a ban from sports events for one year has also been imposed on the individual. Efforts are being meticulously carried out to uncover the material truth in all aspects within the scope of the investigation," the statement read.
