Citizens, who said they ran away when they saw the ship coming towards them, stated, "It was almost going to hit the pier; it could have been a major disaster. People were very scared."

According to the information obtained, the incident occurred around 07:50 off the coast of Beşiktaş. The dry cargo ship named EGE-M, flying the Liberian flag, began to drift due to a mechanical failure and storm. Citizens who saw the ship being dragged towards the shore experienced great panic. Those at the Beşiktaş Pier fled in panic. The 190-meter-long, 33-meter-wide dry cargo ship stopped just before hitting the pier. Then the ship began to slowly move away from the pier. It was learned that the ship, which was heading to Hatay, was anchored off Yenikapı. Meanwhile, the panic moments experienced in the area were also captured on camera.

Yılmaz Aslan said, "At first, we thought it was a passenger ship. Everyone was running. They shouted from the side. The ship was coming at high speed. It was 3-5 meters away from hitting. Suddenly it slowed down. The engine stopped. Then it went backward. There was panic. They cut the electricity. They evacuated the square. People were fleeing. People came out of the ship and ran around. Once the situation was under control, it returned to normal. It could have been a major disaster."

After that, it started working and left. A great danger was experienced. It was almost going to hit the pier. People were very scared. The pier was evacuated."
