A notification for 16 lira 50 kuruş arrived for the 1993 model pickup truck of 66-year-old retired traffic police officer Aydın Çalış, who works as a tradesman in the Vakfıkebir district of Trabzon and has not taken it out of the province since 2009, on the grounds that it made a violation passage through the Sarıgazi-S8A toll gate of the Northern Ring Road in Istanbul. Because the payment period had passed, the amount rose to 33 lira. Çalış said he would apply to the relevant authorities out of concern that the vehicle may have been used in another crime or had a fake license plate attached.
Aydın Çalış (66), a retired traffic police officer who runs a business in the Vakfıkebir district of Trabzon, was notified via e-Government of a toll fee of 16 lira 50 kuruş payable on the grounds that his pickup truck, which he has used only between districts for 17 years, made a toll violation on the Istanbul Northern Ring Road. Çalış, who said his pickup truck had never left the province, said, "I saw that a payment of 16 lira 50 kuruş appeared. At first I thought it was 16,500 lira."
NOTIFICATION ARRIVED ON E-GOVERNMENT
A message arrived on the phone of Aydın Çalış, a retired traffic police officer who runs a business in the Vakfıkebir district, stating that he had a notification via e-Government. Çalış, who logged into the system and checked the notification, saw that his pickup truck with license plate 61 HF 262 had made a violation passage on September 20, 2026, through the Sarıgazi-S8A toll booth belonging to the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge and Northern Ring Road operation in Istanbul. The notification stated that the fee payable due to the violation passage was 16 lira 50 kuruş. Çalış, who stated that he was uneasy because he had not taken his 1993 model pickup truck outside Trabzon since 2009, said he would apply to the relevant authorities regarding the possibility that the vehicle could have been used in another incident or had a fake license plate attached.
MY PICKUP TRUCK OVERHEATS AT 10 KILOMETERS
Aydın Çalış, describing that such an incident happened to him for the first time, said, "I am sitting at my workplace. A message came to my phone from e-Government containing the information 'You have a notification.' When I looked, I learned that on September 20, 2026, my aforementioned pickup truck was fined at a toll booth on the Northern Ring Road in Istanbul. My pickup truck is a 1993 model that overheats on a 10-kilometer village road. I saw that a payment of 16 lira 50 kuruş appeared. At first I thought it was 16,500 lira. This fine has no importance, but I am a retired law enforcement officer. This car could be involved in another crime, and a fake license plate could be used. That is why I became uneasy."
I HAVE NOT LEFT TRABZON SINCE 2009
Çalış, who stated that his pickup truck was in front of his workplace on that date, expressed that he would apply to the relevant authorities and take precautions, saying, "I have also passed the payment date. The amount rose to 33 lira. I will pay, but I will apply to the relevant authorities to prevent possible future incidents. My pickup truck passed through the Sarıgazi-S8A toll booth on the Istanbul Northern Ring Road. I also do not think there is a toll fee of 16 lira. I could not understand what happened. I was really very surprised. I am encountering such a thing for the first time. The amount of the traffic fine also seemed strange. I thought maybe it was fake, but I was surprised that it also appeared on e-Government. My pickup truck was parked in front of my workplace on that date. I bought my pickup truck in 2009. Since that date, I have never taken it outside Trabzon and its districts. Perhaps a piece of gum can be bought for 16 lira. I will apply to the relevant authorities and take precautions," he said.
