A first since the war began! LNG tanker passed through the Strait of Hormuz.

For the first time since the start of the war in the Middle East, an LNG tanker has been reported crossing the Strait of Hormuz. The vessel named 'Mubaraz,' which had been waiting for weeks, is said to be heading toward China, drawing attention in energy markets. However, as US-Iran tensions persist, oil prices remain high and uncertainty continues.

A liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipment has crossed the Strait of Hormuz for the first time since the war in the Middle East began, according to reports. The development is considered a 'critical threshold' for global energy markets.

FIRST CROSSING IN WEEKS

According to ship tracking data, the 'Mubaraz' LNG tanker, loaded at Abu Dhabi National Oil Company's Das Island facility, moved again after waiting for weeks in the Persian Gulf. After briefly turning off its signals, the vessel reportedly passed through southern India and is heading toward China, with an expected arrival around May 15.

TRAFFIC HAD NEARLY STOPPED

Due to the mutual blockades and heightened tensions between the US and Iran, energy shipments through the Strait of Hormuz had dropped to nearly zero over the past two months. Previously, no loaded LNG tanker had been confirmed crossing the strait, through which approximately one-fifth of the global LNG supply passes.

RETURNING SHIPS DREW ATTENTION

In recent weeks, LNG ships loaded from Qatar approaching the strait and then turning back highlighted the scale of the crisis. It was noted that only an empty LNG tanker made the crossing in April.

TRUMP KEEPS DISTANCE FROM IRAN OFFER

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump reportedly found Iran's offer to open the Strait of Hormuz insufficient, as it did not include the nuclear program. While talks between the parties continue, pressure on energy supply persists.

OIL REMAINS HIGH

The crisis in the Strait of Hormuz has also pushed oil prices higher. Brent crude rose to $109.46, while US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude reached $97.55.
