Inspections carried out by the municipal police made a mark at the 'Kuymak Festival' organized by the Bilecik Black Sea Association in the Closed Market Area of Hürriyet Neighborhood in Bilecik center. Acting on complaints from the public about 'products being sold openly', Zabıta Chief Özgür Özmen and his team took action upon the instructions of Deputy Mayor Sabri Çobanoğlu.
THE LABEL GAME WAS EXPOSED
While removing the dolma, sarma, tomato paste, and unlabeled products sold openly during their inspection, Zabıta Chief Özgür Özmen noticed a discrepancy on the Beypazarı Kurusu. Realizing that there was another label on the product's label, Özmen immediately removed it. The teams were shocked to see that there was another label underneath, showing the product's past expiration date. At a sausage stand, they immediately warned the seller upon seeing that the sausages with a bull logo were labeled as chicken instead of beef. The teams warned citizens that they might mistake the sausage for beef upon seeing the bull image and had 'chicken sausage' written in front of the sausages.
"THEY HAVE RE-LABELED THE PRODUCTS"
After the inspections, Bilecik Municipality Zabıta Director Mücahit Öndersev warned the citizens, stating, "During the 'Kuymak Festival' held in Bilecik recently, despite the barcode on the products indicating chicken meat, there were bull and cow images on the logos behind the sales counter. Of course, since our citizens do not have much information on this matter, they may think that the sausage they bought is made from beef upon seeing the bull image. We identified these issues, stating that the products were labeled as chicken meat and that the labels in front of these counters should indicate that they are made from chicken meat, and the prices should be adjusted accordingly. All products sold openly were removed. We saw that the existing expired products had been re-labeled, pushing their expiration dates forward. All products that had been re-labeled in this way were confiscated and destroyed. Additionally, all products sold openly were removed. All precautions were taken to ensure that our citizens receive the full value of the money they paid. We strongly advise our citizens to check the contents of the products they purchase, look at the expiration dates, and ensure that the weight they paid for is correct," he said.
