A fire broke out for an unknown reason at a furniture manufacturing factory in Konya's Karatay district. FLAMES ROSE AT FURNITURE FACTORY A fire broke out for an undetermined reason at a furniture manufacturing factory in the Çelik ve Ahşap Büro Mobilyacıları Sitesi (Steel and Wood Office Furniture Makers' Site) in the Karatay district. Upon notification by nearby residents who saw the rapidly growing flames and smoke, numerous firefighting, medical, and police teams were dispatched to the scene.
SERIOUSLY INJURED DURING INTERVENTION Konya Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department teams, upon arriving at the scene, began efforts without delay to extinguish the flames. Firefighter Mehmet Tekeli, who was among the teams intervening in the fire, was seriously injured during the extinguishing operations. After initial medical intervention at the scene by health teams, Tekeli was urgently taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Mehmet Tekeli PASSED AWAY IN HOSPITAL Heroic firefighter Mehmet Tekeli, who was hospitalized for treatment, could not be saved despite all efforts by doctors and succumbed to his injuries. Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay announced the tragic news in a post on his social media account. Mayor Altay's post included the following statements:
"Our heroic firefighter Mehmet Tekeli, who was injured while intervening in a fire in our Karatay district, became a martyr at the hospital where he was taken. I wish God's mercy upon our martyr, and patience and condolences to his family and my colleagues. May his soul rest in paradise."
GOVERNOR AND MAYOR CONDUCTED INSPECTION AT THE SCENE Following the fire, Konya Governor İbrahim Akın and Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay promptly went to the scene. The officials inspected the ongoing firefighting and extinguishing operations on site and received information from the teams about the situation.
While the fire at the factory was brought under control after intense and prolonged efforts by the firefighting teams, a comprehensive investigation was launched into the incident.
