During the dismantling of materials in a risky building evacuated under urban transformation in Istanbul's Küçükçekmece district, a partial collapse occurred. In a statement from the municipality, it was reported that the ceiling collapsed while four people who had illegally entered the structure were removing materials without permission. While two of those trapped under the debris were rescued injured, 36-year-old Muhammet Taş, who was taken to the hospital, lost his life despite all interventions.
In Istanbul's Küçükçekmece district, the ceiling collapsed on 4 people who entered a risky building that had been evacuated as part of an urban transformation without permission and attempted to dismantle materials. As a result of the partial collapse, 1 person died and 2 were injured.
PARTIAL COLLAPSE OCCURRED DURING DEMOLITION
The incident occurred on Şair Şinasi Street in Küçükçekmece Fevzi Çakmak Neighborhood. In the building, which is in the urban transformation process and whose third floor demolition was ongoing, a partial collapse happened for an undetermined reason. Upon citizens in the vicinity reporting in great panic, police, fire brigade, health, and AFAD teams were dispatched to the scene without delay and extensive security measures were taken.
1 PERSON GOT OUT ON THEIR OWN, 2 WERE RESCUED FROM THE RUBBLE
During the collapse, 1 person who was inside the structure managed to get out on their own; while citizens named Muhammet Taş, Recep Taş, and Murat Taş, trapped under the rubble, were rescued injured as a result of intensive efforts by the teams. After initial first aid at the scene, the injured were urgently transferred to hospital. With AFAD teams confirming that no one else remained in the building, search and rescue operations in the area were concluded.
STATEMENT FROM THE MUNICIPALITY: "THEY WERE DISMANTLING MATERIALS WITHOUT PERMISSION"
Gökhan Aygün, Deputy Mayor of Küçükçekmece Municipality, made a statement regarding the unfortunate incident, stating that the building in question had previously been declared a "risky structure," was completely evacuated, and the urban transformation process had officially begun. Aygün stated that the ceiling suddenly collapsed while 4 people, ignoring the danger, entered the structure illegally and were dismantling materials without authorization.
36-YEAR-OLD MUHAMMET TAŞ COULD NOT BE SAVED
Among the injured taken under treatment at the hospital, 36-year-old Muhammet Taş could not be saved despite all efforts by the doctors and lost his life. It was learned that the deceased Taş's funeral will be buried after the funeral prayer to be held at Yenibosna Merkez Mosque following the noon prayer tomorrow. The investigation into the incident continues.
