According to the information obtained, a fire broke out in the container where the workers were staying at a construction site for an unknown reason. As the flames grew rapidly, a large number of fire and police teams were dispatched to the area.
5 CONTAINERS AND 2 VEHICLES COMPLETELY BURNED The fire teams that arrived at the scene brought the fire under control and extinguished it, while cooling efforts are still ongoing. According to initial assessments, 5 containers and 2 vehicles were completely burned and rendered unusable. It was also learned that the personal belongings of the workers in the containers were completely burned during the fire.
WORKERS' BELONGINGS ALSO TURNED TO ASHES Kadir Alan, a construction worker who stated that he was in the container where the fire broke out, said, "The place we stayed was completely burned. We don't know exactly what happened; we were already working on the site. Most likely, it must have been caused by an electrical fault, about 90%. When the smoke suddenly rose, we ran over. Only some were able to save their cars; we couldn't take any belongings. Some barely saved their lives. Our belongings, everything we had burned. Everything needed for a person to wear, our IDs, our driver's licenses, everything burned," he said.
THEY BARELY SAVED THEIR LIVES Another migrant worker at the site, Ahmet Önder, said, "Everything burned and was gone in 5-10 minutes; there was black smoke, nothing else. Thank God we were not harmed. There is nothing to be done, that's it. We were staying in containers, and we had all our belongings and materials. Our bags, our belongings, our IDs, our cards, all gone," he added.
Volkan Marangoz, who stated that he came to pour concrete at the construction site, said, "We were pouring concrete right here. Suddenly, a fire broke out from the dormitories. When the fire broke out, people tried to go to the dormitories to get their belongings, but hardly anyone could take anything out. The cars were lined up here; two or three cars also burned. Everyone's belongings burned. When we saw the fire, everyone ran over; we stopped the concrete and ran. We checked if anyone was inside, but thank God no one was there. We tried to bring the mixer in from here and spray some water, but the mixer’s water didn’t help. Then they called the fire department; by the time the fire department arrived, there was a lot of smoke, and black smoke was rising. Smoke was visible from everywhere; since the insides of the containers were electrified, even more smoke came out. Everything turned black, and visibility was zero. Those inside threw themselves outside in panic; some jumped from the second floor. People's belongings, phones, and some had large amounts of cash burned, and some of their cars burned," he expressed.
