Professor Dr. Şener Üşümezsoy, who predicted the 6.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Istanbul 20 days in advance, stated, "This was the last major earthquake in the Marmara region. There is no longer any earthquake risk." Üşümezsoy also drew attention to the regions of İzmir Karaburun, Kütahya, and Tokat/Kazova, warning, "These areas should be monitored closely."

Prof. Dr. Şener Üşümezsoy, as an expert who accurately predicted the Silivri earthquake, argues that the expected major earthquake for Istanbul has not occurred. He claimed that the earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 that occurred in Istanbul on April 23 was the last major earthquake.
"THIS WAS THE LAST EARTHQUAKE IN MARMARA"
In a television program he attended, Üşümezsoy stated that he knows the bottom of the Sea of Marmara very well, saying, "This was the last major earthquake in Marmara. The fault south of the Çınarcık basin broke in 1894. According to some, there has been no earthquake in Marmara since 1766, and it is said that 'Marmara will be devastated every 250 years.' They predicted an earthquake of magnitude 8 first, then 7. However, the thesis of an earthquake every 250 years is incorrect. A 7.2 magnitude earthquake requires a fault of 350 kilometers. There is no risk of an earthquake moving eastward," he stated.
"ZERO EARTHQUAKE INDICATOR ON THE ISLAND FAULT"
Addressing misleading fault claims, Üşümezsoy said, "There is a ridge like Avcılar between Büyükçekmece and Yeşilköy. They were showing a fault passing through here, but there is no such fault. The only fault that poses a risk is the 30-kilometer fault between Kumburgaz and Büyükçekmece. This fault has broken and released stress. The earthquake indicator on the island fault is zero. There is no longer any earthquake danger," he stated.
HE POINTED OUT 3 PROVINCES
Additionally, Üşümezsoy, who made new warnings, called attention to "the İzmir Karaburun-Kütahya and Tokat/Kazova regions."
