National athlete Emre Yazgan, who lost his life in an avalanche on Mount Palandöken in Erzurum, was buried in his hometown of Maçka district in Trabzon. After the funeral ceremony in Kocaeli, Yazgan's body was brought to Yukarıköy Central Mosque in the Yukarıköy neighborhood of the district, arriving at Trabzon Airport by plane. Following the noon prayer, the funeral prayer was attended by his father Fatih, mother Gülcan, twin brother Yunus Yazgan, as well as Trabzon Governor Aziz Yıldırım, Trabzon Metropolitan Mayor Ahmet Metin Genç, Trabzon Provincial Gendarmerie Commander Brigadier General Bahittin Murat Yakın, Maçka District Governor Şahin Demir, Trabzon Provincial Police Chief Murat Esertürk, Turkish Judo Federation President Sezer Huysuz, Youth and Sports Ministry Athlete Development Department Head Ali Sosanoğlu, and fellow athletes. The young judoka's funeral was later buried in the family cemetery at the same location. "THE SADDEST DAY FOR OUR COMMUNITY"Turkish Judo Federation President Huysuz stated in a press conference that they are experiencing one of the saddest days as a community. Huysuz pointed out that Yazgan was a disciplined and respectful athlete, saying, "We have really been in a very difficult situation for the last two days. We have been together as a community and as a family since the incident occurred. The saddest day is today. We performed the funeral prayer yesterday in Kocaeli, but today, hopefully, we will bury our brother and send him off to eternity. I hope he will be granted the title of martyr." he said.
