PAKISTAN: OPTION FOR WAR WITH AFGHANISTAN IF NO AGREEMENT

Pakistan Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammed Asif made important statements regarding the ongoing talks with Afghanistan. Asif mentioned that there have been no incidents in the 5 days since a ceasefire was reached with Afghanistan under the mediation of Qatar and Turkey, and that both sides have adhered to the ceasefire. Regarding the second meeting with Afghanistan in Istanbul, Asif stated, "If there is no agreement, we have the option to enter into open war with them. But I have seen that they want peace."

SECOND ROUND OF PAKISTAN-AFGHANISTAN TALKS BEGINS IN ISTANBUL

The Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the second round of talks between Pakistan and Afghanistan began today in Istanbul. The aim of the talks is to develop a mechanism to implement the ceasefire reached in Doha on October 19 in the long term.

The Islamabad administration accuses Kabul of harboring militants targeting the Pakistani army. The Taliban administration in Afghanistan denies the allegations, stating that Pakistan's military operations violate Afghanistan's sovereignty.

CONFLICTS BETWEEN PAKISTAN AND AFGHANISTAN

Islamabad conducted some airstrikes on Kabul on October 9 as part of its "fight against the Pakistan Taliban (TTP)." On October 11, Afghan security forces responded with extensive attacks on Pakistani outposts in the border region, and clashes flared up in some areas.

The Afghan administration announced that the conflicts had ceased with the mediation of Qatar and Saudi Arabia. However, on October 14, tensions escalated again at the border. Pakistan announced on October 15 that it had declared a 48-hour temporary ceasefire in response to Afghanistan's request for a ceasefire.

PAKISTAN'S EXPECTATIONS FROM THE AFGHAN ADMINISTRATION

Since the Taliban took control in Afghanistan in 2021, Pakistan expects the new administration to take measures regarding the TTP. The Islamabad administration states that the TTP, which it classifies as a "terrorist organization" and has carried out numerous actions on its territory, has established itself in Afghanistan, and that the Kabul administration has not taken measures against the organization.

The Afghan administration, on the other hand, claims that the TTP does not operate on its territory. The TTP actively uses the tribal areas in the Pashtun belt that spread across the Durand Line, which was established during the British colonial period and effectively serves as the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
