In the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), the presidential election was won by Tufan Erhürman, the leader of the Republican Turkish Party, while a dialogue on a television channel broadcasting in the country sparked a major controversy. Journalist Serhat İncirli stated, "The ambassador of the Republic of Turkey should withdraw tomorrow. If I had the authority, I would say 'persona non grata, take this man away from here.'"
According to unofficial results of the presidential election held in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Tufan Erhürman, the leader of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP), emerged victorious from the polls. Erhürman was elected president by receiving 62.76% of the votes. Independent candidate Ersin Tatar, on the other hand, received 35.81% of the votes.

On election night, during the special election program broadcasted on Sim TV, one of the local television channels in the TRNC, journalist Serhat İncirli's words created a significant stir. In a live broadcast, İncirli stated, "The ambassador of the Republic of Turkey should withdraw tomorrow. If I had the authority, I would say 'persona non grata, take this man away from here.'" The program's host supported these remarks by saying, "Absolutely."
