In the protests held on the grounds that a religious figure's tomb was damaged in the city of Aleppo, Syria, there were casualties and injuries, while the country's interim government stated that elements of the ousted regime were orchestrating "provocations." After videos regarding the alleged damage to the tomb of the religious figure Abu Abdullah Hasibi in Aleppo circulated among some social media users, groups gathered in the squares to protest in the provinces of Hama, Homs, Latakia, Tartus, and in the districts of Jableh and Banyas. THERE ARE DEAD AND INJUREDIn the clashes between protesters and security forces in Homs and Tartus, there were casualties and injuries on both sides. According to the Syrian News Agency (SANA), a curfew was declared in Homs from 18:00 to 08:00. Security forces affiliated with the interim government had intensified their search operations regarding officials of the ousted regime who committed war crimes in Syria, particularly in the provinces of Latakia and Tartus, over the past three days. STATEMENT FROM THE MINISTRY OF INTERIORIn a statement from the Media Office of the Interim Government's Ministry of Interior, it was stated, "Videos showing the raid and attack on the tomb of Sheikh Abu Abdullah al-Husaybi, one of the religious tombs of a sect in Aleppo province, have been circulated on some social media accounts. These videos were presented as if they had occurred recently. The circulated videos are old footage from the time when the city of Aleppo was liberated by unknown groups, and we emphasize that our institutions are working day and night to protect properties and religious sites, and the purpose of re-publishing such videos is to sow discord among the Syrian people during this sensitive period that Syria is going through." CALL FROM THE GOVERNOR OF LATTAKIAThe statement noted that some elements of the ousted regime in Syria's coastal areas took advantage of the events to launch armed attacks against security forces, resulting in casualties among the security forces. According to SANA, Latakia Governor Muhammad Osman stated in his remarks on the matter that the administration is determined to maintain civil peace and social harmony. Osman emphasized that the security forces are fulfilling their duties and called on Syrians not to be swayed by the effects of the protests.
