The attack on the airport in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic by drones from Iran has significantly increased tensions between Azerbaijan and Iran. Following Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's venomous statements, a threatening statement came from Iran.
A senior security source from Iran said that if Tehran intended to attack Azerbaijan, it would not limit itself to a small drone.
ALIYEV: "THESE DISGRACEFUL ONES WILL REGRET"
In a statement following the attack on Nakhchivan, Aliyev said: "These disgraceful ones, those who carried out this terrorist act against us will regret it. They should not test our strength. Those who want to test our strength have had their heads broken through 'Iron Fist'. Today's incident will yield the same result. Therefore, an action plan regarding this issue must be prepared. All instructions have been given. The Iranian Ambassador to Baku has been summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and a protest note has been delivered. Other diplomatic steps will also be taken. Necessary instructions regarding the border have been given."
