No statement has yet been made by the US regarding the news.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps announced on April 3 that it had shot down a fighter jet in the central parts of the country using air defense systems. Iranian media reported that the pilot of the US fighter jet may have been captured and taken prisoner.
Officials speaking to the US press confirmed that the plane had crashed, stating that one crew member had been rescued and search and rescue efforts were ongoing for the second person.
The New York Times reported that a second US fighter jet was downed almost simultaneously with the F-15 fighter jet near the Strait of Hormuz. The report indicated that the pilot of the plane survived the incident.
US President Donald Trump announced that they had also rescued the second pilot of the F-15E fighter jet downed in Iran on April 3.
