The acting Prime Minister of Afghanistan, Mullah Mohammad Hasan Akhund, announced that a general amnesty has been declared. Akhund called on Afghans who fled to other countries following the change of government on August 15, 2021, to return to their homeland.

CALL FOR AFGHANS TO "RETURN TO YOUR COUNTRY"
Akhund stated in a message published on the occasion of Eid al-Adha that all Afghans who fled the country are "free to return home" and that "no one will harm them," using the expression, "Return to the land of your ancestors and live in peace." Akhund announced that a general amnesty has been declared.
Akhund also reported that he instructed the authorities to provide appropriate services and shelter for Afghans returning to their country.
NUMEROUS AFGHANS LEFT THEIR COUNTRY IN 2021
After the withdrawal of the U.S. and NATO from Afghanistan in 2021, many Afghans left their countries. U.S. President Donald Trump had banned the travel of citizens from 12 countries, including Afghanistan, to the U.S. on June 5, citing "threats to national security."
